The Bluebirds could be pillaged this summer for their better players, with vultures surrounding Wales international Colwill

The Bluebirds were the first team confirmed as in the third tier for next season, with Omer Riza sacked too late in the day for a difference to be made on the pitch.

With the loss of revenues that comes with the drop to League One, you can expect some departures from the Cardiff City Stadium this coming summer, and Colwill could be the most sought-after of the lot.

Championship clubs keen on Cardiff City playmaker Rubin Colwill

According to journalist Pete O'Rourke, there are multiple clubs currently in the Championship that are keen on signing Rubin Colwill this summer.

The 23-year-old has always been highly-regarded within footballing circles since he broke through at Cardiff, and there were even rumours in 2024 that Premier League giants Arsenal were keeping close tabs on the attacking midfielder's progress.

Despite the talent though, Colwill hasn't managed to produce a consistent stream of goals and assists for City, with just one goal and four assists in 43 Championship appearances in the club's disappointing 2024-25 campaign.

Wales manager Craig Bellamy insisted back in November that Colwill had a "long way to go" to reach his full potential, and even hinted that he could be developed into more of a deeper-lying midfielder rather than the '10' he currently is.

It remains to be seen which Championship clubs are keen on the 6ft 2in creative midfielder, but Cardiff are likely to hold out for multiple millions for his services, even with the relegation to League One.

Rubin Colwill's contract situation at Cardiff City as exit talk rumbles

Cardiff hold a strong hand when it comes to Colwill's future, and they seemingly won't be pressured into selling him for less than he's worth.

He has a contract that runs until June 2027, which he only signed back in September, so any Championship clubs looking to land a cut-price deal for Colwill will end up somewhat disappointed.
