Wrexham are reported as interested in two attacking players from this year's Championship as they seek to strengthen.

Wrexham are eyeing up Plymouth Argyle striker Ryan Hardie and Cardiff City forward Callum Robinson as transfer targets ahead of the summer window opening, according to reports.

The Red Dragons will be eyeing up fresh recruits for their first season in the second tier of English football since 1982, and they will certainly have the fire-power given the revenues the club have been bringing in thanks to their new-found notoriety.

And despite both being relegated from the Championship this past season, Hardie and Robinson look destined to remain in the second tier thanks to their seasonal form.

According to journalist Darren Witcoop, Wrexham will target a striker with Championship experience to bolster Phil Parkinson's options, with both Hardie and Robinson name-dropped.

Both players got into double figures in terms of goals scored in the Championship for their respective clubs this season despite them getting relegated, with Hardie finding the back of the net 10 times for Plymouth, whilst Robinson was a scorer of 12 goals for Cardiff.

Robinson only signed a fresh Cardiff contract back in January, with his previous deal expiring this coming summer, whereas Scottish striker Hardie is contracted at Home Park until June 2026.

Hardie joined Plymouth Argyle from Blackpool on loan in January 2020, making his move permanent a year later. He's scored 53 League goals for the Pilgrims since joining the club, and scored the penalty which famously knocked Liverpool out of this year's FA Cup.

It certainly doesn't seem as though Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney intend to stand still, as hinted at by the latter on X following promotion from League One being sealed.

Wrexham had another immensely successful season, finishing as runners-up to record-breaking champions Birmingham City and securing an unprecedented third successive promotion from the National League to the Championship.

But although McElhenney appears sanguine about making further progress next time around, it remains the case that this is a big jump up in terms of quality, meaning that work will need to be done on the squad if they're to hold their own at this even higher level next season.

Wrexham will have to balance ambition against reality this summer

The Championship is a very different environment to either Leagues One or Two, with different financial controls in place and teams falling into the division from the Premier League who are receiving parachute payments.

The high profile that Wrexham have taken on since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought the club has carried considerable benefits for the club, and they will likely be an attractive potential destination for players looking to boost their profiles this summer too.

But while McElhenney doesn't "even know what the word 'consolidation' means", there will be plenty of others behind the scenes at the club who absolutely do, and reports concerning such players as Hardie and Robinson indicate that, behind the scenes, the club are working on a more sensible rebuild than some of the wilder rumours that have followed the club around in recent years might suggest.
