Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed Neymar’s selection for the World Cup and says the forward will have an important role for Brazil.

According to L'Équipe, the Italian, 66, set out his reasoning at a press conference shortly after announcing the decision.

He explained that his staff had monitored Neymar throughout the year and recently observed renewed consistency, adding that the player is in good physical condition.

Neymar had not been called up since October 2023, when Brazil lost 2-0 to Uruguay.

The World Cup runs from 11 June to 19 July and will be staged in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
