CD Castellón great Antonio Navarro Manzanares, known as Tonín, opened his private museum for a reunion of club figures, blending nostalgia with the team’s upbeat present.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Manolo Clares, José Ignacio González Viña, José Juan Cioffi, Pascual Beltrán, Manolo Corrales, Manolo Gual, Francisco José Subirats and Tomás Miravet attended and reflected on their careers and the club’s excellent moment.
Tonín was part of the side that reached the 1973 Copa del Generalísimo final, losing 2-0 to Athletic Club at the Vicente Calderón. He remembered an empty Castellón as many travelled to Madrid and the town’s joy and hope, calling them fond memories and a satisfaction to have experienced.
For decades he ran a landmark sports shop on Herrero street and founded Club Deportivo Tonín. He has now turned the site into a museum of his career, featuring a Spain 2010 World Cup shirt loaned by Vicente del Bosque.
The 1972/73 cup run dominates, with a black and white Adidas match ball, a number seven shirt and images from the semi-final second leg against Sporting de Gijón at El Molinón.
There are line-ups from his youth and amateur days, and images of his first-team debut on six September 1970 in the Segunda División at the old Estadio Castalia, when he scored to seal a 2-1 win over Racing de Santander. The oldest item is a pair of 1922 boots, gifted by a former kitman.
