Rody Hoegee, CD Castellón’s set-piece specialist, has left to join Feyenoord, the Eredivisie’s runners-up, working under former Barcelona player Giovanni van Bronckhorst. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Castellón will receive a fee for the move.

The Dutch coach departs after one season at SkyFi Castalia, where he was part of Pablo Hernández’s staff and helped drive a strong focus on dead-ball routines.

Hoegee returns to a former club, having been a goalkeeper with Sparta Rotterdam, Cambuur, Willem II and Feyenoord at youth level. After retiring he coached goalkeepers, notably at Dordrecht and with the Netherlands under-18s, before specialising in set plays.

The last time Castellón earned money from a staff exit was in 2009, when Atlético de Madrid hired head coach Abel Resino. At the time it was reported that a 300,000 euro clause existed, though he left for 180,000 and a friendly.

Set pieces were a pillar of Castellón’s season, producing 24 goals. There were 13 from corners, five by Brignani, three by Camara, three by Barri, one by Sienra and one by Jakobsen. Efforts by Lucas Alcázar against Cádiz and Fabrizio Brignani against Real Zaragoza were ruled out.

Free-kick routines yielded five more, scored by Brignani, Mabil, Barri, Cala and Sienra. The team also converted six penalties, three by Cala, two by Suero and one by Douglas Aurélio. Castellón, who previously had Italian specialist Lorenzo Dolcetti, will now seek a replacement.
