Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has hit back at critics following his team's 1-0 victory over Golden Arrows in the Betway Premiership on Tuesday.

Aden McCarthy scored the decisive goal that saw the Soweto giants climb to third on the log standings - two points behind table-toppers Mamelodi Sundowns, who have 29 points.

Kaze took over the reins alongside Khalil Ben Youssef following the departure of Nasreddine Nabi in October, much to the discontent of a section of Amakhosi faithful, who advocated for a new coach.

Thus, the pair has been under scrutiny from the supporters and pundits alike, questioning their credentials to lead a team of Chiefs' stature to glory, and the Burundian tactician has since fired back.

“I don't feel that I'm not trusted but I feel that I'm very supported within the team, with the management, with the players and all the colleagues that are working with us. But sometimes I feel like it's the outside people that try to create things,” Kaze said.

"I would say as well that sometimes there is kind of a lack of respect when some people talk about a position where there is a coach already - saying I will make them champions and when you look at the history of that coach talking about that - he has never done that [won a league] before.

"And sometimes journalists talking about ‘those two co-coaches’, they don't even know the names and I'm talking about SoccerBeat actually. But we know what we are doing and we are qualified but at the end of the season we will meet and I'm pretty sure that everyone will apologise.

Meanwhile, Chiefs will now shift their focus to continental commitments as they are set to jet off to Zambia to face ZESCO United in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.
