Celta have halted Javi Rueda’s proposed move to Nottingham Forest, prioritising his continuity over a cash injection, according to Superdeporte.

Forest offered 15 million euros, with 7.5 million earmarked for Celta and 7.5 million for Real Madrid, who hold 50% of the defender’s rights.

In a Wednesday press conference, Claudio Girládez underlined Rueda’s importance to the squad, saying he hoped the player would not leave and describing the deal as a bad sale.

Despite raising only 350,000 euros from departures this window, through the loans of Unai Nuñez and Hugo Sotelo, the club have decided the player should stay.

Following the rejection, the Vigo side plan to offer Rueda improved terms while they await Nottingham Forest’s response.
