Celtic v Rangers: John Beaton handed whistle for Glasgow Derby | OneFootball

Celtic face Rangers on Sunday as Martin O’Neill’s side get a quick-fire chance to redeem themselves for their League Cup defeat at Ibrox. The Scottish Champions host their city rivals in the Premiership just one week after the 3-0 defeat across the city.

The SFA have confirmed the referee appointments for the game with experienced referee John Beaton being named the man in charge.

Beaton will be assisted by David McGeachie and Jonathan Bell with Ryan Lee operating as Fourth Official.

Meanwhile, Nick Walsh has been confirmed as the VAR official with Grant Irvine assisting.

Beaton has taken charge of nine Glasgow Derby matches, with Celtic winning three and Rangers winning two. Surprisingly, Beaton has never issued a red card in the fixture despite some high profile decisions.

Beaton last took charge of the fixture in March with Celtic coming from 2-0 down at halftime to salvage a dramatic 2-2 draw. The referee was guided to the monitor after missing a Sterling handball, which denied Maeda a goal from close range. Reo Hatate netted from the spot and secured a point, which proved to be pivotal in the title race.

Hopefully Celtic can bounce back from their defeat at the weekend but first of all, the visit of Ferencvaros in the UEFA Europa League is the concern for the Hoops.
