ExpressAndStar.com reports that Cesar Peixoto has contacted Kieran Trippier to reassure him he remains central to his Wolves plans, with the pair exchanging messages.

Trippier became the club’s first summer signing earlier this month, just days before Rob Edwards was sacked and Peixoto appointed. Edwards had been influential in persuading the 35-year-old to drop to the Championship after leaving Newcastle, and talk of a U-turn was considered unlikely.

Trippier is due to report to Compton Park with the squad early next month for pre-season. He posted pictures of himself training in Mallorca on Thursday and will be expected to help drive a swift return to the Premier League after relegation.

Peixoto is awaiting a work permit before he can formally start at Compton Park, but the 46-year-old has moved quickly to outline plans to senior players. He views pre-season as crucial, with Wolves, who finished their top-flight campaign in late May, likely to return later than many Championship rivals.

Peixoto also met Jackson in Portugal this week, with transfer strategy discussed and outgoings a focus, while several futures may not be settled until after the World Cup.

Wolves could receive a windfall if former winger Chiquinho moves this summer, due to a 50 per cent sell-on clause in his Alverca deal. The 26-year-old made 11 appearances for Wolves before a serious knee injury and left for nothing last year. Alverca are believed to be seeking around £8 million after his resurgence.
