One in and one out at Stamford Bridge as Xabi Alonso continues squad overhaul

Chelsea have reached an agreement with Como for Trevoh Chalobah, with Jordan Henderson’s transfer also being confirmed.

Standard Sport understands the deal taking Chalobah to Como - managed by former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas - is worth €30million (£25.7m) plus up to €6m (£5.1m) in add-ons.

Meanwhile, reports in Italy claim the England international is due to undergo a medical with the Serie A side later this week.

Chalobah was a mainstay in Chelsea’s defence last season, making 47 appearances across all competitions under three different head coaches, but was not considered untouchable ahead of the arrival of Xabi Alonso this summer.

Standard Sport reported that while Chelsea rate Chalobah highly, and were not actively looking to sell, interest from Como means the academy product is closing in on a departure.

The Blues have already signed Maxence Lacroix from London rivals Crystal Palace and are expected to target further defensive reinforcements amid links to Rayo Vallecano left-back Pep Chavarria.

As Chalobah gets ready to swap west London for Italy, Henderson has completed his switch to Stamford Bridge as the experienced midfielder has signed a two-year contract.

Speaking to the club’s in-house media channels, the former Liverpool captain has explained why he has opted to make the move to Chelsea, citing Alonso’s role in his decision.

He said: “Given the size of the club, the manager, who I have great admiration for, and the quality of the players, this was a huge opportunity I couldn’t turn down.

“I was also so impressed with how much the ownership want Chelsea to be successful and move in the right direction.

“For me, it's about giving everything every single day, both on and off the field, to help the players around me and the team as much as possible. I'm very excited to get going.”
