In a recent report, L’Equipe revealed that Chelsea are facing stiff competition for Lille striker Matias Fernandez-Pardo this summer. It has been claimed that the Blues would have to compete with Liverpool, Arsenal and Atletico Madrid in the race to sign the Belgian forward this off-season.

Fernandez-Pardo’s Impressive Form In French Football

Fernandez-Pardo managed to shine at times with his performances as the focal point of Lille’s attack in the previous campaign. The 21-year-old registered eight goals and earned seven assists in 41 matches for the French outfit last season across multiple competitions.

The Belgian talent is currently among the most gifted forwards in Ligue 1. Hence, it is no surprise that Chelsea are in the mix to acquire his services in this transfer window.

Fernandez-Pardo is under contract at the French club until the summer of 2029, which could make it difficult for the Blues to sign him on the cheap later this year.

Chelsea Are Facing Stiff Competition For Fernandez-Pardo: Is He Worth The Fight?

Fernandez-Pardo excels at creating some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He can engineer some promising chances for his teammates to find the back of the net and usually quite clever with his movements in and around the opponent’s penalty area.

Standing at 1.88m, the Belgian striker is a strong presence in the air as well and can contribute by scoring and creating a handful of crucial goals for his team. Fernandez-Pardo is primarily a centre-forward but can also function as a wide player on either flank if needed. However, there are some question marks over whether he would be able to make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League if the Blues manage to win the race for his services this off-season.

Fernandez-Pardo would inject more quality and depth into Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso’s attack. He is capable of fighting for a regular starting spot at Stamford Bridge next season.

At 21, the future looks quite bright for Fernandez-Pardo as long as he continues to improve with each year. He would be well worth the fight, so the West London club should focus on stepping up their efforts to land him in this transfer period.
