Chelsea are weighing up a move for Rayo Vallecano left-back Pep Chavarria, according to MARCA. Initial contacts have reportedly taken place between intermediaries, with the Stamford Bridge hierarchy identifying the 28-year-old as an ideal, cost-effective candidate to replace Marc Cucurella, who recently joined Real Madrid.
While the Blues have prioritised high-value young prospects in recent transfer windows, they now recognise a pressing need for established squad depth and experienced profiles to balance the roster as Chelsea prepare for life under Xabi Alonso.
Chavarria’s stock has risen steadily following an impressive 2025/26 campaign. He made 44 appearances across all competitions, helping his side navigate a gruelling season that included a run to the UEFA Conference League final.
Securing the Spanish defender would represent a pragmatic shift in Chelsea’s recruitment strategy. Chavarria’s versatility is a key asset; he is comfortable operating as a traditional left-back in a back four or stepping forward into a left-midfield role.
Chavarria recently signed a long-term contract at the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas, which runs until June 2030 and includes a release clause.
Chelsea are now considering making an offer for Chavarria, who is also attracting interest from other clubs, most notably Bayer Leverkusen.
For Chavarria, the lure of Stamford Bridge represents a significant opportunity to secure a move to one of Europe’s giants.
However, with the impending arrival of Marco Palestra, who is seen as an option for both full-back positions, it remains to be seen how keen Chelsea are to bring in a new left-back.
