Chelsea handed £10m fine and suspended transfer ban by FA | OneFootball

Chelsea have been fined £10 million and handed a suspended two-window transfer ban after winning an appeal against a punishment that would have seen the club face a suspended six-point deduction.

The sanctions relate to 74 breaches of Football Association regulations involving payments to unregistered agents and intermediaries between 2009 and 2022, most of which occurred during Roman Abramovich's ownership.

The club admitted making around £47 million in undisclosed payments between 2011 and 2018. Following their takeover in 2022, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital self-reported the breaches and have cooperated fully with the investigation ever since.

An independent commission originally handed Chelsea a £10m fine and a suspended six-point deduction, but the club appealed the decision. The FA has now confirmed that the points penalty has been overturned and replaced with a suspended ban on registering new players for the next two transfer windows.

The ban will only be activated if Chelsea commit similar breaches before June 2027, while the financial penalty remains unchanged.

The case brings another chapter of the Abramovich-era investigations to a close. Chelsea have already agreed settlements with both the Premier League and UEFA over related financial matters, and the latest FA ruling means the club avoid the threat of losing points while still receiving a significant punishment.
