Enzo Maresca says Chelsea duo Marc Guiu and Romeo Lavia are not far away from being able to return.

Lavia has endured another frustrating campaign with injury, with his latest setback ruling him out for the last two games.

Since 15 December, however, Lavia has played just three times in all competitions because of hamstring issues.

He has managed just 13 appearances for the club in all competitions following a difficult debut season at the Blues during the last campaign too, in which he made just one appearance.

But Maresca offered a promising update on the Belgian midfielder and says he expects him to play again soon.

“Hopefully, we can get Romeo [playing] very soon,” he said.

“I don’t know about the next game, but he looks good in terms of being back soon.”

Guiu, meanwhile, has been absent since the start of March because of a hamstring injury but is also nearing a return.

“Marc, we have good news today that he looks good and quite better,” he said. “He can be back before the season finishes.”

Chelsea take on Legia Warsaw on Thursday in the first-leg of their Conference League quarter-final.

Maresca opted not to name duo Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer in his starting line-up for the goalless draw with Brentford on Sunday but says that does not necessarily mean they will start against their next opponents.

“Probably from the outside, you receive in the wrong way the reason why Cole and Nico didn’t play,” Maresa explained.

“It wasn’t because we wanted them to play tomorrow. It was to start the game in one way and finish in another.”

Maresca also says playing in what is anticipated to be a difficult atmosphere will benefit his squad.

“We need to experience this kind of game, this kind of moment,” he said.

“After tomorrow, we will be a better team, we need this.”
