Bobby Tambling, the former Chelsea striker, died overnight from Wednesday to Thursday at the age of 84, according to L'Équipe.
A Chelsea youth product, he spent 11 seasons with the first team from 1959 to 1970, playing 370 matches and scoring 202 goals. His tally stood as the club record for four decades until Frank Lampard surpassed it in 2013 with 211.
Tambling still holds Chelsea’s record for most goals in a single match, scoring 5.
At international level he won three England caps and scored one goal.
After leaving Stamford Bridge, he spent three seasons at Crystal Palace. He then spent his final six playing years in Ireland and later moved into coaching, most notably with Crosshaven AFC from 1985 to 2012.
