Reliable journalist David Ornstein has provided an update on Chelsea’s search for a new manager and revealed when they will make an appointment.

Chelsea have begun their search for a new permanent manager after parting company with former boss Liam Rosenior earlier this week.

Rosenior had a six-and-a-half-year contract at Chelsea, but club chiefs were left with no choice but to part company with the inexperienced boss following a dire run of five straight losses.

For now, academy coach Calum McFarlane has stepped up to become Chelsea’s interim manager until the end of the season, but they will appoint a long-term replacement in the summer.

The Blues are already linked with several potential replacements, including Cesc Fabregas, Andoni Iraola and Oliver Glasner, but current Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann is said to be their ‘dream replacement’.

However, Ornstein’s new update on Chelsea’s manager search has hinted that Nagelsmann will not be appointed, while their next boss is likely already managing at the club level.

“No concrete update on Chelsea’s new manager search as this process is at an extremely early stage,” Ornstein told NBC Sports.

“It’s most likely that potential candidates are in jobs at the moment and Chelsea want to show respect.

“In the next days I would expect conversations between Chelsea and representatives of candidates, and then in the weeks ahead they’ll be asking clubs for permission to potentially speak to them and that process will accelerate towards the end of the season and I do expect an appointment early in the summer.

“I wouldn’t expect it to drag on too long and that may rule out some of the coaches going to be working at the World Cup. It’s likely that it will come down to a handful of names as I understand it.”

Why Chelsea should snub two candidates to build a team of “warriors and soldiers”…

Ex-Chelsea defender William Gallas has explained why he thinks his former side should snub Iraola and Fabregas to appoint Diego Simeone.

“I think it all depends on what you are looking for,” Gallas told Boyle Sports.

“For the long-term, you can bring in Cesc Fabregas because he is doing well with his club at the moment.

“He is young and able to speak to a young squad. He’s doing a good job. In the long term, he can bring Chelsea back to the positions where everybody wants to see Chelsea.

“If you are thinking about the short-term, to have success straight away, they need that experienced head to guide them like Diego Simone and with his personality he can win things very soon with Chelsea.

“Maybe the Chelsea players need him too because we need to see more warriors and soldiers in the team after what they’ve shown us.

“I think you need that type of manager who is a little bit more harsh on the players.”
