Blues’ star-studded front three struggled to impress themselves on the Gunners’ stalwart back line

Chelsea were beaten 2-1 at Arsenal in the Premier League despite Morgan Rogers giving them an early lead after just 77 seconds.

Rogers netted inside two minutes against the other club he could have joined from Aston Villa this summer, but Arsenal came back and won at the Emirates.

Kai Havertz levelled against his former team, before Martin Odegaard netted the winning goal with Chelsea unable to get themselves back level.

Dom Smith was at the Emirates Stadium to rate the Chelsea players’ performances…

Saved from well from Bukayo Saka in either half but Havertz’s goal was a suspect one to concede, especially after letting in three on debut last weekend.

Didn’t manage to contain Arsenal’s attack every time but did make lots of blocks and headed clearances.

Maxence Lacroix 4

Looked a bit behind the pace of the game and struggled to get his head up.

Josh Acheampong 5

A couple of nice runs on the overlap and did use his pace. Some good long-throw deliveries too.

Pedro Neto 7

Worked tirelessly at wing-back and was one of Chelsea’s best players, hitting the post in the first half.

Romeo Lavia 5

Denied Saka a certain goal with a fine header. Did not look happy when substituted, desperate to last 90 minutes in a match of such high magnitude.

Reece James 6

Hammered one shot on goal, forcing David Raya into a stinging save. Held down midfield well.

Jorrel Hato 6

Assisted Rogers for Chelsea’s opener and defended well despite Arsenal’s victory.

In an alternative universe, he might have been playing for Arsenal in this game. Instead, scored against them - a fine volley that had fans chanting “you should have signed for a big club” as he came off.

Cole Palmer 5

Booked for stopping Havertz getting away when put in by David Raya. Saw plenty of the ball but no telling impact.

Joao Pedro 5

Shown a yellow card early on and it just didn’t quite happen for him.
