Chelsea host Hull City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday looking to respond to their first Premier League defeat under Xabi Alonso, a 2-1 loss at Arsenal last weekend.
The Blues needed a dramatic second-half turnaround to beat Leeds United 6-3 in the EFL Cup in midweek after trailing at the break, and sit fourth in the table, three points off the pace. Alonso’s side have never lost to Hull in 10 previous Premier League meetings, but their defensive form remains a concern heading into the weekend.
Jordan Henderson (wrist) and Emmanuel Emegha (muscle) continue their recoveries, and Moises Caicedo remains unavailable after Alonso ruled him out on Friday, saying it is “not the moment to take the risk with him.” Marco Palestra is also sidelined. Romeo Lavia’s absence from the matchday squad in midweek was a rotation decision rather than an injury concern, and the midfielder is expected to be available.
Levi Colwill is set for another start in a back three after Alonso allayed fitness fears following the EFL Cup win, with Maxence Lacroix, Josh Acheampong and Wesley Fofana also competing for places in defence. Morgan Rogers, who provided four assists as a substitute against Leeds, is expected to earn a recall, while Cole Palmer — who scored twice in midweek — is set to support central striker Joao Pedro.
Chelsea possible starting XI (3-4-2-1): Martinez; Acheampong, Lacroix, Colwill; Neto, James, Lavia, Hato; Rogers, Palmer; Pedro
The Premier League match kicks off at 15:00 on Saturday, 12 September 2026.
The match is not being broadcast live on television in the UK, with the fixture falling inside the traditional Saturday 3pm blackout.
