Chelsea kick off their 2025-26 UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign on Wednesday.
For this opening match, they travel to the Netherlands to face Eredivisie champions Twente. Sonia Bompastor’s side has enjoyed a strong, unbeaten start to their domestic season. Consequently, they will look to lay down an early marker in Europe as they begin their quest for continental glory. The Blues are also very familiar with their opponents.
In fact, they defeated them twice in this competition last season, including a comprehensive 6-1 victory. This previous success, combined with their superior squad depth, makes them strong favourites. Therefore, fans will expect a professional performance to get the campaign off to a winning start.
Sonia Bompastor has confirmed several key players are unavailable for the trip. For instance, the club has ruled out attacker Catarina Macario with a minor Achilles issue. As a result, she joins Lucy Bronze, Lauren James, and Niamh Charles on the sidelines.
However, captain Millie Bright is approaching a potential milestone, as she is set to make her 299th appearance for the club. She will lead the defence, where Nathalie Björn will likely partner with her. Meanwhile, in the attack, Aggie Beever-Jones and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd are expected to provide the threat from the wings.
Chelsea predicted XI: Hampton; Baltimore, Bright, Björn, Carpenter; Walsh, Cuthbert, Nüsken; Kaptein, Rytting Kaneryd, Beever-Jones.
The Champions League fixture takes place at De Grolsch Veste on Wednesday, 8 October 2025, and kicks off at 5:45 pm BST.
The match will not air on live television in the UK. However, subscribers can stream the game live on Disney+. Coverage begins at 5:00 pm BST
