Chema Andres has made a flying start at Brighton and has addressed his Real Madrid future in an interview.

"Hopefully I’ll return in the future, but right now I’m not thinking about that," he told COPE's Tiempo de Juego.

Andres joined from Stuttgart this summer for a reported £19 million (€23m). The Spain Under-21 international has played 200 minutes for Brighton, delivering a goal and an assist in his first three games. He featured in dominant wins over Manchester United in the EFL Cup and a 3-0 league victory against Arsenal.

Before Germany he spent seven years in Real Madrid’s academy and B team. He made three senior appearances, totalling 37 minutes, during his 2024-25 stint. He left in search of regular first-team football.

Madrid had buyback options and a 50 per cent sell-on clause while he was at Stuttgart. After 41 appearances in his debut season there, speculation grew about a return, but the club chose not to act. Brighton stepped in, a deal that ended Madrid’s contractual ties and delivered €11.5m to them via the clause.

With a long-term Brighton contract running to 2031 and his form rising, any Madrid move would demand a sizeable fee.
