Chris Davies has offered an injury update over forward Jay Stansfield.

Birmingham City boss Chris Davies has insisted Jay Stansfield’s injury isn’t a long-term issue, but he doesn’t want to rush his asset back into action.

The former Fulham man missed Blues’ 2-0 defeat to Leicester City last Friday evening with an ankle problem sustained in a League Cup defeat to Port Vale.

Supporters bemoaned his unavailability for the lack of cutting edge they had at the King Power Stadium, as they dropped to 10th in the table following that defeat in the East Midlands.

The striker went for a scan prior to the clash with the Foxes, which then ruled him out of the encounter, and Davies has now provided a bit more clarity about what the check showed.

As reported by the Birmingham Mail, Blues boss Chris Davies shared an update regarding Jay Stansfield, revealing his ankle injury won’t rule him out for the long-term future, but he is cautious about bringing the talisman back into the first-team squad so soon.

Davies said: “It’s not a long-term thing, that’s what I will say.

“We’ll have to see how it goes in the next couple of weeks. It’s one of those things that we’ll see week by week without putting too much pressure on a date to get back. He’ll try his best, as always, but it’s just unfortunate.”

Jay Stansfield is clearly the man who can make things happen in the Birmingham City attack, demonstrated by the three goals he’s already netted so far this term.

And it wasn’t a coincidence to see his teammates struggle in his absence against Leicester City and failing to hit the back of the net, an away trip that was already tough enough on paper with the 22-year-old in the side.

After the international break, Birmingham face tough tests at the Bet365 Stadium to take on Stoke City, who have started the season well, while hosting Swansea City the following week and then making the short trip to Coventry City, which all present challenges for Chris Davies’ men.
