Nottingham Forest appear to be targeting a post-international break return for Chris Wood, after the striker marked his comeback with a goal for the club’s B team.
Nottingham Post reports that Wood started against Newcastle United Under-21s on Friday night, converted a Jimmy Sinclair cross after 11 minutes, and was replaced at half-time after 45 minutes in a 3-0 win.
It was his first outing since October following a knee injury.
His return is a lift for Forest as they fight to stay in the Premier League and continue in the Europa League. They are 17th, above the relegation zone only on goal difference, before Sunday’s six-pointer with 16th-placed Tottenham.
There is no confirmation he could feature against Aston Villa after the break, but he is considered important for the run-in.
