Eray Cömert will play at the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. According to AS, the Switzerland centre-back has been named in the final squad for the tournament, which begins in a month. It will be his second World Cup after Qatar 2022.
Ugrinic, the other Swiss in Valencia’s squad, has not been selected. Cömert could be the club’s only representative at the tournament. Guido Rodríguez and Javi Guerra are in the preliminary lists for Argentina and Spain, but their participation is complicated.
Cömert has become a key player for Carlos Corberán in 2026 since Diakhaby’s injury was confirmed. He has featured in 17 matches this season, logging more than 1,300 minutes and scoring two goals.
His season is already over, and perhaps his Valencia career too, after a red card in San Sebastián. He must serve a suspension in the next match against Barça at Mestalla. His contract expires in June and he has yet to receive a renewal offer.
Valencia had planned to move him on last summer, but no satisfactory bids arrived. He spent last season on loan at Valladolid, then returned for pre-season. His future remains up in the air and he could go to the World Cup without a club if Valencia do not act on a new deal.
