Leon Goretzka could leave FC Bayern sooner than expected after all, with a winter transfer suddenly back on the cards.

According to the Turkish portal Sports Digitale, Tottenham Hotspur have entered into direct talks with Goretzka’s entourage. The English club with a long tradition apparently wants to position itself early in case a transfer opportunity arises in Munich – and hopes to reach an agreement before the end of January.

It had previously been reported that Atlético Madrid and SSC Napoli were also interested in Goretzka. According to TUTTOMercato, the Bayern star is the Italians‘ preferred solution for central midfield. There has also been interest from Spain recently, but no concrete offers have been made to date.

A transfer in the winter is still not certain. According to various media reports, Bayern bosses are hesitant to release him, although it would possibly be the last chance to secure a transfer fee. Goretzka’s contract runs until the summer of 2026. He is still valued in Munich as a complementary player and character in the dressing room, even if he has currently lost his starting place to Aleksandar Pavlović.

An extension on different terms is also still on the table. According to the Spanish newspaper AS, it is conceivable that Goretzka could follow Serge Gnabry’s example and agree to a new contract with a reduced salary. Goretzka could also take on a new role as an experienced leader in the squad in this way.

Whether this actually happens will depend crucially on his sporting prospects. Regular playing time remains the most important argument for Goretzka when planning his future. With an eye on the 2026 World Cup, the international does not want to take any risks and is likely to weigh up carefully whether he can continue to hope for sufficient match practice in Munich.
