The CTA (Referees’ Technical Committee) in La Liga have on Thursday confirmed that one of the three goals scored by Barcelona against RCD Mallorca on opening day should not have stood.
The goal in question, which came amid highly controversial circumstances, was netted by Ferran Torres.
After Antonio Raíllo was left grounded after being struck in the head with the ball, Munuera Montero opted against stopping play.
This allowed frontman Ferran to control the ball, before directing a briliant strike into the hosts’ net.
The decision left Mallorca’s players nothing short of furious on the pitch, sparking widespread protests at Son Moix.
And as alluded to above, with the dust having now settled on the fixture, those in charge of overseeing the standard of officiating in Spain’s top-flight have had their say.
As confirmed by the CTA, cited by El Chiringuito TV, play should have been stopped before Ferran’s strike, to abide by the concussion protocol rules.
