Carlos Corberán set out Valencia’s rest-day schedule in a press conference after recent criticism on social media and chants from the singing section at Mestalla.

"I have not followed the issue of rest days much because it is the last thing that matters at this Valencia," he said on Tiempo de juego on Cadena Cope. "Players need a rest, otherwise you do not recharge the batteries."

He said planning is tied to the calendar and workload, not done at random. From the Real Sociedad game, the squad have had two days off in the past 20 days, and across 31 days, four. Some players have not skipped any sessions.

Corberán explained that decisions are agreed with his staff and he takes the final call. Training sessions carry the required intensity, he added, and rest is part of that process.

He cited examples, arriving for Celta after 10 straight days of work and losing 1-4, and facing Girona after 10 days in a row, also a defeat. In his view there is no clear link between days off and results, and mental recovery is key.
