Corinthians have appointed Fernando Diniz as head coach after a hectic Monday for the Fiel. According to Meu Timao, Dorival Júnior confirmed his farewell in a social media post and said he spoke by phone with president Osmar Stábile after the Copa do Brasil triumph.

Agents of former Corinthians players, including José Martínez and Igor Coronado, posted messages on social networks that were viewed as indirect digs at Dorival following his exit.

Dorival ended his stint with the second-worst record at Neo Química Arena among the last 10 coaches to lead the team.

Diniz returns 29 years after wearing the black-and-white shirt in the 1990s, when he was a champion for the club.

Early reaction was mixed, with comments on social media showing the Fiel split over the new manager’s arrival.

The club also announced the arrivals of assistant coach Léo Porto and fitness coach Wagner Bertelli.

After 10 rounds of the National, Corinthians have the lowest attacking output among the 20 Série A teams, with only eight goals.
