Corinthians full-back: Squad strength, easy Luizinho partnership

Corinthians had to change their starting right-back in the middle of the Copinha, as João Vitor Jacaré was promoted to the professional team. His replacement was Pellegrin, who is now the first choice and has formed a partnership with Luizinho, the Timãozinho forward who plays on the right side.

“We trust William Batista a lot. He said that at first I would start on the bench and I told him I understood, that he had to do what he thought was best for the group. In the second game, I would already start as a starter and it just so happened that Jacaré went back to São Paulo,” said the defender in the mixed zone.

“We kept a very united team, we knew that at any moment, if the professional team asked, we could lose some players. But we also knew that whoever was on the bench and whoever came in would be able to deliver results and keep the level high,” added the right-back.

The first game with the changes was tough, ending 0-0 against Luverdense, but the team managed to recover and beat XV de Jaú 3-2. For the rest of the Copinha, Pellegrin is betting on his chemistry with Luizinho, a partnership that has existed since the lower divisions.

“Luizinho is a player I really like to play with on my wing. Because we’ve played together since the U-15 and U-17. In the U-17, I gave him a lot of assists. Having him here at the Copinha helps me a lot, because sometimes I go outside and he goes inside, or I go inside and he goes outside. He’s a winger who can play both inside and outside and helps me a lot,” commented Pellegrin.

This Monday (12th), the U-20 team takes the field to face Guarani in the second phase of the Copinha, in a match that’s worth a spot in the next decisive game. The ball rolls at 9:20 PM (Brasília time), at Estádio Zezinho Magalhães, in Jaú, where the group stage games were held.
