Corinthians have opened a new World Cup exhibit at their Memorial in Parque São Jorge, honouring club players who represented their countries at the tournament, with historical items charting their journeys.

According to Meu Timao, the display brings together magazines, photographs, shirts and other objects, and is likely to remain open until the end of the current edition.

A photo wall highlights those who featured at World Cups while on the club’s books. Corinthians have had 29 call-ups overall. As Baltazar, Rivellino and Ricardinho went to two tournaments each, that equates to 26 different players.

Of those 26, eight became world champions while at the club. Gilmar and Oreco lifted the trophy with Brazil in 1958 in Sweden, Rivellino and Ado repeated the feat in 1970 in Mexico. Viola triumphed in 1994 in the United States, with Dida, Vampeta and Ricardinho part of the 2002 winners in South Korea and Japan.

There were no Corinthians players in Brazil squads in 2010, 2014 or 2022. The last call-ups for Brazil came in 2018, when goalkeeper Cássio and right-back Fagner were in Tite’s group in Russia, who went out to Belgium in the quarter-finals.

The club’s most recent World Cup representative is in the current edition. Netherlands forward Memphis Depay, recovering from a grade two tear in his right anterior thigh sustained in March, played 51 minutes and registered one assist. He was not used by Ronald Koeman in the Netherlands’ round-of-32 shootout defeat to Morocco.
