Corinthians out of LBF 2026, women's basketball project set to end

Corinthians will not be present in the 2026 edition of the Women's Basketball League (LBF). The club failed to meet all the criteria required by the competition's organization within the established deadline and, therefore, was not included in the final list of teams confirmed for the next season.

The club's management did pay the pre-registration fee within the stipulated period, on December 19, 2025. However, the club did not submit all the necessary documentation related to the technical, administrative, and financial requirements outlined in the LBF regulations by January 19, 2026.

The decision not to proceed with the process came from Corinthians itself, which has been making budget adjustments in terrestrial sports. As a result, women's basketball is not expected to continue in 2026. After the campaign that ended with the runner-up position in the Paulista Championship in December, all the players on the roster were released.

During the period of uncertainty, players mobilized on social media seeking sponsors in an attempt to sustain the project. Securing partners was seen internally as an alternative to reverse the termination of the sport. Part of the group has already defined new paths for their careers. Guard and captain Alana Gonçalo has agreed to transfer to Neptunas in Lithuania.

In November 2025, director Osmar Stabile publicly commented on the need to cut expenses at the club, citing high operational costs in different areas and emphasizing the search for more sustainable models for sports modalities.

Corinthians' women's basketball was resumed in 2024 after an eight-year hiatus. Since its return, the team has participated in competitions such as the LBF, the Paulista Championship, and the LBF Cup, and won the São Paulo Cup title in the project's first year.

The situation also draws attention to men's basketball. The team remains active in the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB) until mid-season, in addition to participating in the Super 8 Cup, secured by the campaign in the first round of the national championship. So far, however, the club has not confirmed new sponsorship agreements to ensure the project's continuity in the medium term.
