Corinthians reject Italian bid for Yuri Alberto, director responds

Corinthians has once again rejected a proposal for forward Yuri Alberto. This time, it was Lazio from Italy, which offered around 22 million euros (R$ 137 million) for the acquisition of the striker. The information was initially reported by journalist Benjamin Back from CNN Brasil.

During his introductory press conference on the morning of this Friday (9th), the football executive Marcelo Paz confirmed the existence of the proposal for the forward but emphasized that the offer is below what the club from Parque São Jorge expects to receive for the player: “Great player. A forward with rare qualities. There was a proposal, but it doesn't meet our needs. We expect a higher offer, given his importance in our squad”, he said.

It is worth noting that Corinthians owns only 50% of the player's economic rights. Of this total, 10% belongs to his agent, André Cury, due to an agreement made between the parties upon his arrival at Alvinegro in mid-2022. The rest, in turn, belongs to Zenit from Russia.

According to Meu Timão, the internal assessment of Corinthians' management is that selling the player would only make sense if Alvinegro collected amounts close to what it would receive from the total offer. In recent years, Yuri Alberto has also attracted interest from Roma in Italy, which offered 28 million euros (R$ 178 million) to buy the athlete, something vetoed by Alvinegro. His contract with the club from Parque São Jorge expires in mid-2030.

Thus, according to Meu Timão, Corinthians intends to keep the player for the 2026 season and considers releasing the athlete at the end of the year only if there are proposals that meet the institution's needs. His release clause for foreign clubs is 100 million euros (over R$ 600 million). The number 9, in fact, returned this Friday (9th) at CT Dr. Joaquim Grava after spending the week in Italy resolving issues related to the issuance of his Italian citizenship.

In the last season, Yuri Alberto was Corinthians' top scorer with 19 goals and three assists in 58 games, playing a crucial role in winning the Campeonato Paulista and Copa do Brasil, against Vasco and Palmeiras, respectively. Since his arrival at the club in July 2022, coming from Zenit in Russia, he has scored 76 goals and provided 22 assists in 207 matches (178 as a starter). He is the top scorer for Alvinegro in the 21st century and the leading scorer at Neo Química Arena with 45 goals scored.

In 2024, after a turbulent start to the year, he was Brazil's top scorer with 31 goals scored (15 of them in the Brazilian Championship), being instrumental in Corinthians' rise in the national tournament – from the relegation zone to the Copa Libertadores qualifiers and a spot in the 2025 Copa do Brasil.
