Corinthians striker on fitness after international duty: "I feel good"

Memphis Depay was once again called up by the Netherlands national team and scored in both matches he participated in, increasing his goal tally for the country. Now, he returns to Brazil to play in the derby for Corinthians, even after traveling from one continent to another and with a recent injury.

“I feel good. I'm in shape. So, yes, I'm happy about that. You lose a lot of unnecessary energy, but this has brought me a lot of energy. And now, unfortunately, I can't enjoy some time here in the Netherlands with my family or something like that, but that's part of my job as a football player. So, it's just about moving forward and, next month, I hope I can present myself in a more relaxed way”, said the player to ESPN, about being 100% physically.

Since arriving at Corinthians, the number 10 has made it clear his desire to defend his own national team, aiming to take the historical top scorer position for the team. The Netherlands are in the World Cup Qualifiers, with qualification on track after Memphis's contributions.

“Inside, I am always very passionate, but I think we can show more of that. We are playing for the Dutch national team, something we dreamed of when we were kids, and now you play so many matches and qualifiers, it's not something normal, and yes, I realize that from time to time, and certainly as you get older, you start to appreciate it more. So yes, I was super happy”, said the forward.

The Corinthians derby is against Santos, this Wednesday, October 15th. Depay returned from Europe last Monday and is expected to participate in Timão's training this Tuesday. The match takes place at Vila Belmiro, starting at 9:30 PM (Brasília time).
