Lamine Yamal has been at the centre of public attention in recent weeks. The Barcelona player is making headlines not only for his performances on the pitch but also due to off-field matters, which are generating an unusual level of interest for an 18-year-old.
Despite his young age, he is already being compared to some of the world’s top footballers. On Monday, it was Cristiano Ronaldo Jr., son of Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo, who shared his thoughts on the Barcelona star.
During a stream hosted by the American streamer RaKai, the son of the former Real Madrid forward responded to a question about whether Lamine Yamal was better than his father.
“Right now, yes, but he hasn’t won anything yet,” he stated.
The two youngsters have met in person, crossing paths last summer in the Algarve. The meeting was revealed by Lamine’s father, who shared a photograph of the moment on social media.
Cristiano Jr. reiterated his praise while maintaining his view, saying: “Lamine is very good, but he hasn’t won anything.”
While the comparisons at this stage of his career are premature, it must be remembered that Lamine already has two La Liga titles to his name – the same number Ronaldo won during his time at Real Madrid
It is also worth recalling that the Real Madrid legend himself praised the Barcelona footballer during the press conference prior to the UEFA Nations League final in June. He also mentioned his son’s admiration for the young Barcelona gem:
“My son and Lamine Yamal look very similar, the skin colour, the tanned skin, the hairstyle. They are three years apart. I like Lamine Yamal a lot and my son admires him a lot,” he commented.
The Portuguese icon also took the opportunity to ease the pressure on the La Masia talent: “Lamine Yamal is doing well, let the boy grow up.”
