Cristóvão C. wishes Mourinho well and urges support for Benfica’s next coach | OneFootball

According to Glorioso 1904, Cristóvão Carvalho took to Instagram as José Mourinho’s Benfica exit appeared imminent, with the coach very close to a Real Madrid return.

Carvalho posted an image from Benfica’s 4-2 win over Real Madrid in the final round of the Champions League regular phase, using it to say goodbye to Mourinho.

He wrote that it seemed definitive Mourinho would leave and that, as Benfica supporters, they should wish him every success, except in any future meetings with Benfica.

Despite the supportive tone, Carvalho had not backed Mourinho’s appointment during Benfica’s election campaign, favouring at the time a renowned foreign coach to lead the project.

He also addressed the incoming coach, urging fans to give total backing and asking the club to provide the conditions needed for victories and titles, adding that only then would it be clear what the new manager could achieve.

Marco Silva is the man expected to replace Mourinho.
