Crysencio Summerville’s Netherlands World Cup call-up has prompted talk of a Leeds United windfall from his 2024 transfer, but club sources say no extra payment is due if he plays for his country, according to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk.
Summerville opted to stay at Elland Road after the 2023 relegation, expecting minutes to prove his quality. He delivered under Daniel Farke with 19 goals and nine assists, earning Championship Player of the Season. West Ham United triggered his release clause on August 3, bringing Leeds just over £25m plus add-ons.
At West Ham, his first campaign was cut short by a serious hamstring injury that cost him 18 Premier League games. This season he did not score until January in a 2-1 win over Spurs, then netted in four straight league matches, finishing with seven in all competitions and five assists. Speculation over a summer move was already growing even before West Ham’s relegation was confirmed, despite a final-day win over Leeds.
The 24-year-old now earns a first senior call-up after 37 Dutch youth caps, joining Ronald Koeman’s squad. He is set for friendlies against Algeria and Uzbekistan, then group-stage fixtures against Japan, Sweden and Tunisia.
The group could also pit him against two Leeds players. Gabriel Gudmundsson has been called up by Sweden, despite his club season being cut short by injury, while Ao Tanaka is in Japan’s squad.
