Crystal Palace maintain a strong interest in Botafogo central midfielder Danilo Santos but have yet to submit an official transfer bid, according to Diario AS.
The 25-year-old has attracted attention following a series of commanding performances for Botafogo, establishing himself as a key presence in midfield.
Described as a player who ‘attacks and defends with the same strength‘, Danilo fits the athletic profile Palace are seeking as they look to reinforce their midfield options ahead of the new campaign.
However, despite their concrete interest in bringing the Brazilian to Selhurst Park, Palace have not made a bid. That hesitation has opened the door for Atalanta to take the lead in negotiations.
The Bergamo-based club have moved quickly in recent days, opening direct talks with Botafogo to structure a deal expected to exceed €20 million.
Manager Maurizio Sarri has identified Danilo as an ideal addition to his high-intensity system, and Atalanta are actively working to finalise terms before other suitors step forward.
A decision on whether to escalate their interest into a formal bid is expected from Palace. They have actively expanded their scouting network across South America in recent transfer windows.
With talks between Botafogo and Atalanta progressing but no final agreement yet sealed, the transfer outcome remains up in the air.
If Palace turn their interest into an offer, they could move ahead in the race, given they can offer Premier League and Europa League football.
