Referee Rafael Rodrigo Klein wrote in his match report that Santos head coach Cuca was sent off against Atlético-MG during Saturday’s 11th round at Vila Belmiro. The document also records incidents involving objects thrown from the stands.

At 21 minutes of the first half, assistant referee Tiago Augusto Kappes Diel was struck by a cardboard ball thrown from the area housing Santos supporters.

Two minutes later, at 23 minutes, Cuca, full name Alexi Stival, received two yellow cards in quick succession after continuing to protest with a raised finger over a disallowed Gabigol goal, leading to his dismissal. After the red card, he told the fourth official that the refereeing team were bananas and said VAR official Rafael Traci was not trustworthy.

As the officials made for the tunnel, a plastic cup containing liquid and an ice cube were thrown from the organised Santos section, though none of the match officials were hit.

The red card rules Cuca out of Santos’ meeting with Fluminense on Sunday at 16:00 Brasília time, also at Vila Belmiro, in the 12th round. Santos are expected to have assistant Cuquinha, the coach’s brother, in the dugout.
