In just under an hour, the ball will be rolling in the Allianz Arena as FC Bayern host RB Leipzig in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup. For Vincent Kompany, it’s all about reaching the semi-finals – a goal the Munich side have not achieved for years. This is how Bayern will line up.
The Bayern coach has made no changes to his starting XI compared to the last Bundesliga match against Hoffenheim. Manuel Neuer will once again stand between the posts, with Josip Stanisic, Dayot Upamecano, Jonathan Tah and Alphonso Davies defending in front of him in a back four.
Everything remains the same in central midfield, with Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlovic once again forming the double-six. The duo had recently provided control and balance and should also be able to control the game against Leipzig’s attacking strength.
Kompany has also opted for continuity in attack, with Michael Olise and Luis Díaz manning the wings and Serge Gnabry operating behind Harry Kane. Jamal Musiala and Lennart Karl will initially take their places on the bench, with Kane leading the Munich side out onto the pitch as usual.

The record champions will be looking to finally make a statement in the DFB Cup again. Bayern last reached the semi-finals in 2020, winning the cup 4-2 against Bayer Leverkusen at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium. Since then, the quarter-finals have been the last stop at the latest. The motivation to take the next step this time is correspondingly high.
Nevertheless, Kompany warned of the quality of the opponents ahead of the game: „Both teams know each other very well. They have the wingers and the attacking trio that scores a lot of goals and has a lot of creativity. It’s a team that is strong offensively.“ At the same time, he made it clear: „The game is at home, it’s a must-win game. We want to deliver what we can.“
