Brazil defender Danilo has lauded Flamengo’s scale and passion since returning home, fresh from lifting the 2025 Libertadores with the Rio club.
"After 14 years in Europe, I am back in my country and at Flamengo, the biggest club in Brazil, with 50 million supporters. It is a bit crazy, because there is a lot of pressure and a lot of passion in every game, with 60,000 to 70,000 people in the stadium. I am also close to my family again, and all of them are Flamengo supporters," he told The Athletic.
Before that, he scored the title-winning goal for Santos in the 2011 Libertadores, then moved to Porto. He returned from Europe in January 2025 to pull on the Flamengo shirt and added the club’s fourth Libertadores later that year.
Head coach Carlo Ancelotti has called up Danilo, Léo Pereira, Alex Sandro and Lucas Paquetá for the World Cup, making Flamengo the team with the most players in Brazil’s squad.
Brazil open their 2026 World Cup campaign on Saturday 13 against Morocco at MetLife Stadium in the United States, with kick-off at 19:00 Brasília time.
