Sunderland are preparing a major off-field restructure this summer, with Chief Business Officer David Bruce set to depart, Sunderland Echo understands.
Bruce joined in July 2023 as Chief Brand and Commercial Officer, then became Chief Business Officer a year later. He helped deliver the switch to hummel as kit partner and outsourced retail to Fanatics.
His work, including the 'Til The End campaign, drew praise from supporters. The club are moving in a different direction as they seek to accelerate commercial growth.
A new CEO is expected to be appointed this summer, tasked with driving revenues and strengthening the club’s position in the Premier League.
Sunderland have already reshaped their operations, appointing Mike Papadimitriou as Chief Financial Officer last September. Tom Burwell has recently joined the board as a non-executive director, and both have close links to the Bia Sports Group, through which Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and Juan Sartori manage their sporting investments.
Burwell will serve as interim CEO until the new hire is made this summer. The club are recruiting a Chief Revenue Officer after Ashley Peden left the Chief Commercial Officer post in January. Scott McCubbin, who also works for Bia Sports Group, is covering the role on an interim basis.
