The final hours of the winter transfer window have produced a high-stakes standoff between Milan, Nottingham, and Liverpool, with the future of two midfielders inextricably linked.

According to Fabrizio Biasin, Davide Frattesi’s move to Nottingham Forest is currently on standby and hinges entirely on whether Inter can secure Curtis Jones from Liverpool. The two operations are now strictly mirrors of one another. If one piece fails to move, the entire domino effect collapses.

Liverpool have proposed Jones to the Nerazzurri on a loan basis, but the Premier League club has set a mandatory condition before granting the final green light. The Reds require Jones to sign a contract extension until 2028 to protect his market value before allowing him to depart for Italy.

The terms are clear. If Jones does not finalize his extension with Liverpool, the English club will block his exit. Consequently, Inter will not sanction Frattesi’s departure to Nottingham Forest without having his replacement secured. Should the stalemate continue past the deadline, both players are expected to remain at their current clubs for the remainder of the season.
