Sam Smith settled it in the 58th minute with a left-footed finish from close range, as Wrexham won 1-0 at Sheffield Wednesday.
He darted across the near post to meet Issa Kabore's cross and guided the ball into the bottom left corner, a poacher's run that broke a tight game.
After the restart, he drew another stop from Murphy Mahoney with a low strike (65.). Moments later he dragged a left-footed effort wide from the right side of the six-yard box (74.).
Smith finished with three attempts, two on target, six touches in the box, seven aerials won and eight possessions won, underlining how he kept Wrexham playing high up the pitch.
His relentless movement across the back line and sharp front post timing suited Kabore's supply on the right, pinning defenders and opening lanes for crosses.
Wrexham rise from seventh to sixth in the Championship and host Millwall next. The Owls visit Blackburn next.
