Smith strikes as Wrexham climb to sixth | OneFootball

Wrexham beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 at Hillsborough to rise from seventh to sixth in the Championship.

Sam Smith broke the deadlock in the 58th minute, turning in Issa Kabore's cross from close range.

Murphy Mahoney kept The Owls in it with saves from Smith (65.) and Josh Windass (71.). Arthur Okonkwo then denied Bailey Cadamarteri with a high stop (76.) as the visitors protected their lead.

Moments earlier, Smith had swept another Kabore delivery narrowly wide (74.). Phil Parkinson introduced a triple change (78.), including Kieffer Moore, to see the game out.

Four minutes of second half stoppage time were indicated, but Wrexham saw the game through without alarm.

Wrexham controlled the ball with 69% possession and registered 12 attempts, forcing eight corners. The Owls mustered five attempts and three corners.
