According to journalist Simon Johnson in The Athletic, Barcelona sporting director Deco has been in contact with Marc Cucurella’s representatives, with the Chelsea defender emerging as a potential option for the Catalan club this summer.
The report claims that both Deco and Hansi Flick are admirers of the Spanish full-back, who could be available during the transfer window.
However, despite the interest, any move remains dependent on developments within Barcelona’s current squad.
It must be noted that at this stage, strengthening the left-back position is not considered a priority for Barcelona, but the situation could change if there are departures in defence.
According to the journalist, though, Chelsea are open to discussing Cucurella’s future if an offer arrives that matches their valuation of the player.

Right now, the Premier League side is relaxed about the situation because the defender still has three years remaining on his contract.
While no final decision has been made regarding his future, Chelsea would not stand in his way if the right proposal is presented.
The report states that Deco has already established contact with the player’s camp, while Flick is also believed to be a strong admirer of the 27-year-old defender.
Despite that interest, however, Barcelona are not currently in a position to advance negotiations.

This is because the club would first need movement in their own defensive department before considering a new signing in that area.
In that regard, several defenders are tied to long-term contracts, making exits difficult to facilitate and the possibility of signing Cucurella extremely complex.
For that matter, Alejandro Balde has not been extensively placed on the transfer market, although reports suggest Barcelona would at least listen if a significant offer arrived for the academy graduate.
Furthermore, Barcelona are still working to determine whether Joao Cancelo can be retained or not, as any decision regarding the Portuguese could directly affect the club’s approach to the position.
