Dejphon Chansiri is being mocked for what has unfolded at Sheffield Wednesday in the last few days at Hillsborough...

The Dejphon Chansiri era is officially over at Sheffield Wednesday after David Storch's takeover was confirmed this past weekend.

The relief has been felt in South Yorkshire in the last few days, with the Owls' takeover confirmed in time for the side to beat West Bromwich Albion in front of a sell-out crowd for their first league win at Hillsborough in 2025-26.

It has been an incredibly stressful campaign for the Owls. However, at one stage, Dejphon Chansiri and David Storch were in more direct contact to complete a deal and things appeared to be headed in the right direction.

However, it was then revealed that Chansiri threatened to hold up Storch's takeover of Sheffield Wednesday at various points in the last few weeks instead. It got worse, though, when Chansiri then wanted the Wednesday takeover stopped and a new bidding process started - but it was too little, too late.

Dejphon Chansiri mocked for last pre-takeover Sheffield Wednesday actions

We spoke to FLW's Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Patrick McKenna about the fact it’s emerged that Chansiri wanted to stop Sheffield Wednesday’s takeover and start a new bidding process at the 11th hour. We asked if whether or not the Owls have got the last laugh over him...

McKenna told FLW: "Yeah, the news that Dejphon Chansiri wanted to stop the Sheffield Wednesday takeover at the 11th hour is genuinely one of the funniest things I've heard in a long time.

"It gave me a real belly laugh and it just was the cherry on top of the great few days for Sheffield Wednesday. We are laughing at you, Mr. Chansiri following your rancid ownership of the club and your complete and utter disrespect towards the fanbase and staff.

"Who's laughing now? You are going to be left with a pittance that is way below what you wanted for the club and it's absolutely hilarious that you are in this situation because you would not engage with the Arise consortium.

"You thought you were being smart and you were going to get one final win in your head over us. But you lost, Dejphon.

"And now we have a bright future and you are a complete and utter embarrassment. This is a guy that just does show that he does not understand business. He did not understand the administration process.

"It's mind-boggling that a so-called businessman wouldn't, but he clearly thought that he still has some sort of control, even in administration. But the fact was that the club was out of his hands and he didn't dictate the process.

"Hopefully, he is sitting in Thailand now crying and stamping his feet and I really hope he is absolutely gutted and raging at how this has ended.

"The guy who wanted to change the direction of the [River] Don flowing behind the ground and he thought the Mayor of Sheffield could get rid of this HMRC bill — you are an idiot, Mr. Chansiri, and we are going to keep laughing at you now."

Sheffield Wednesday could be a sleeping giant waking up

The mood around Sheffield Wednesday is now just one of unmistakable relief now Chansiri is finally gone. Years of instability, financial concern, and strained communication have left supporters drained but it's over.

For many feeling disconnected from the club they cherish, they can return to Hillsborough in League One. Chansiri’s tenure has often been defined by controversy and has lacked cohesion — and that eroded trust across the fanbase until now with Storch, Arise, and co.

However, his departure represents more than a change of ownership as it is that much-needed reset. Fans should begin to look forward with cautious optimism, hoping for clearer direction, improved decision-making, and a reconnection between club and community.

It's something that has long been missing at Hillsborough for this sleeping giant of English football.
