A football finance expert has provided a positive update on Sheffield Wednesday's situation after David Storch's takeover...
Sheffield Wednesday and David Storch have avoided starting on -15 points, have avoided a wage cap, as the good news continues to roll in at Hillsborough.
The departure of Dejphon Chansiri has lifted a cloud that had been hanging over Sheffield Wednesday for years, with a genuine sense of renewal sweeping across South Yorkshire despite their reset having to start in League One.
Relegation is never ideal, but it presents a chance to rebuild the club without the restrictions they have faced this term. With new ownership now in place, there is an opportunity to restore structure top to bottom and, crucially, to reconnect with the fanbase.
Stability off the pitch should translate into better decision-making on it, which is something that has been sorely lacking. League One should be a platform rather than a setback if handled correctly, but is it that simple with a transfer embargo?

On the surface of it, with a clear vision and competent leadership, Wednesday now have the foundations to rebuild properly and move forward with renewed optimism. But it wasn't just the negative points tally which saw them relegated this season.
Other teams have made a better fist of things, with Derby County relegated on 34 points after a 12-point deduction. However, Wednesday's transfer embargo last summer and in January made it virtually impossible for them this season.
Of course, some players signed on free transfers or loans throughout the campaign, including the impressive duo of Jaden Heskey and Harry Amass from Man City and Man United respectively. But without permanent deals, they were always likely to struggle.
Kieran Maguire is a financial expert and he has since revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that there is more positive news regarding the future of Sheffield Wednesday. That's because the EFL's website has updated.
It reveals that their embargo has been lifted, meaning they can sign players for fees this summer. They had fee restrictions in place until the end of the 2027 January window, but those have been removed.

Wednesday cannot now spend how they want or place players on whatever wage, as Maguire also revealed that they must now adhere to a business plan set by EFL in the third tier.
The club will need to sign numerous players this summer, given the volume of players out of contract. It will almost certainly be one of the most active football clubs in terms of incomings this summer.
Naturally, the Owls will now be one of the favourites to make an immediate return, even if League One is unforgiving. With the takeover finalised in May, Storch is in a strong position to act decisively in the market for Sheffield Wednesday.
It means key appointments behind the scenes — sporting direction, analytics, scouting — can be put in place and set in motion quickly. That early clarity allows Wednesday to identify targets suited to the demands of the third tier rather than scrambling late in the window.
Getting business done early will be vital. A settled squad heading into pre-season gives them the best possible chance to build momentum and hit the ground running.
