Dennis Cirkin has confirmed he will leave Sunderland this summer after an emotional Instagram farewell, describing representing the club as among the biggest privileges of his life.

The player said in a post that the city had taken him in, the Stadium of Light roar would stay with him, and that wearing the badge more than 100 times was a major honour.

The 24-year-old left-back joined from Tottenham Hotspur in 2021 when the club were in League One. He helped Alex Neil’s side win promotion and then emerged as a standout in the Championship.

This season he made 10 Premier League appearances, his last in the draw at Wolves in early May. Injuries limited his involvement but he remains a popular figure on Wearside.

The announcement comes before the club publishes its retained list.
