DFB sporting director Andreas Rettig announces departure | OneFootball

The DFB has also confirmed that sporting director Andreas Rettig will step down when his contract expires at the end of the year.

Rettig informed the DFB's shareholder representatives and supervisory board of his decision during Thursday's meeting, explaining that he will not seek a contract extension for personal reasons.

According to the DFB, Rettig had already informed president Bernd Neuendorf of his plans before the start of the ongoing FIFA World Cup, allowing the federation time to prepare for the upcoming leadership change.

Rettig has served as the DFB's sporting director since 2023, overseeing the federation's sporting operations during a period of significant transition for German football.

His departure comes at a time of major upheaval within the DFB, following Julian Nagelsmann's resignation as Germany head coach. With both the national team coaching position and the sporting director role set to change hands, the federation is preparing for a significant restructuring ahead of the next international cycle.
