In his first season with FC Bayern, Luis Diaz quickly established himself as a key player. Ahead of the World Cup, the Colombian looked back on his first year in Munich and spoke candidly about his homeland, his family, and his new life in Germany.
When Luis Diaz transferred from Liverpool FC to FC Bayern in the summer of 2025, there were certainly some skeptical voices. Many wondered whether the Colombian could live up to the high expectations at the German record champions.
Just a few months later, those doubts have long since been silenced.
Díaz immediately established himself as one of Munich’s most important attacking players and played a major role in Bayern Munich winning all three domestic titles last season. With his dribbling, dynamism, and tremendous intensity, he added a new dimension to Bayern’s attacking play.
Ahead of the start of the 2026 World Cup, the 29-year-old spoke in an FC Bayern video series about his first season in Munich and his life away from home.
Despite his success on the field, there are things the attacking star misses in his daily life.
When asked what he misses most about Colombia, Diaz replied honestly: “What do I miss? A lot.”
The national team player made it clear that his family, above all, plays a major role in his life.
“Colombia is just a different country. Above all, I miss the people, my family, and being close to my family. That’s the most important thing to me,” explained the Bayern Munich pro.
Diaz’s close bond with his family has been a constant throughout his entire career. Since moving to Europe, he has had to repeatedly adjust to new countries, cultures, and languages.
The move to Munich was already the attacking player’s third major stint abroad, following stints in Portugal and England.
For Diaz, such changes are now simply part of his career.
“Portugal, Liverpool, now Germany. These have all been incredible places with languages different from the one I’m used to. But I try to enjoy it, feel at home, and be happy. That’s the most important thing for me,” he emphasized.
That’s exactly what he seems to have achieved in Munich.
Not only was his first season nearly perfect on the field, but Diaz has also quickly settled in off the field. Reports consistently indicate that his family feels very at home in Munich and that the Colombian appreciates the atmosphere at FC Bayern.

Diaz was particularly clear when he spoke about his current club.
“I’m very happy to be part of this great club,” the winger explained.
This satisfaction is also reflected on the field. With 26 goals and 23 assists across all competitions, Diaz was one of the standout players of last season. His aggressive pressing, his willingness to run, and his goal-scoring threat quickly made him a fan favorite in Munich.
Now, the attacking star wants to confirm his strong form at the World Cup as well. With Colombia, Diaz has set his sights on big goals and is hoping for a successful tournament.
At FC Bayern, the club will certainly be keeping a close eye on the 29-year-old’s performances. After his impressive first year in Munich, Diaz is expected to continue playing a central role in Vincent Kompany’s plans moving forward.
