RB Leipzig earned a late 1-0 victory at home against Borussia Mönchengladbach on matchday 29.
The hosts started brightly, needing just three minutes to record their first chance of the afternoon. David Raum sent a ball into the box that only hit the post (3'), Ridle Baku (13') and Rômulo (19') both saw chances saved by Gladbach goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas. With nothing to separate them in the first half, the two teams headed into the break still deadlocked at 0-0.
RBL remained strong at the start of the second half, putting Gladbach under near constant pressure. Nicolas pulled off several saves in order to keep his side in the game.
The 81st minute of play then saw RBL finally manage to break through, as Christoph Baumgartner played in Yan Diomande. The striker breezed past the Gladbach backline before powering a shot into the back of the net to give RBL a deserved lead.
Gladbach went close in the final minutes of play, as Fabio Chiarodia hit the crossbar in the 84th minute. In the end, head coach Ole Werner's side were able to keep hold of their advantage to pick up three important points in the race for Europe.
